Drone roof inspection in Brixham

Brixham is still a working fishing port, built in a steep bowl around a harbour that sees boats, trailers and a working fish market moving through it every day. A scaffold delivery to one of the cottages on the harbour slopes means finding road space in a town where that space is already doing a job, and closing even a short stretch of quayside or street for a tower is a bigger ask here than it would be in a purely residential town. A drone needs none of that: a short flight from a clear spot nearby is all it takes.

The cottages on the harbour slopes were built close together on properly steep ground, many of them rendered and painted, with barely a gap between one roof and the next. A scaffold tower on a street like this often cannot get the working space it needs on either side, and a ladder against the gutter is resting at an awkward angle on a slope that was steep to begin with. Getting a proper look at a roof in a row like this from the ground alone is difficult even before any climbing starts.

Ridge, hip and verge fixings on Brixham roofs are worked hard by that exposure, and checking them properly from the ground or from a ladder braced against a steep street is neither quick nor comfortable. Flying the survey removes the need for anyone to be up there in the wind at all.

A written report follows within 48 hours, prepared by Sam Hembury, whose construction background means the findings are written up the way a builder would read a roof, not just described from a photograph.
